Read it again. Save it. It’s printable, so — Print it! Now, stick it on the refrigerator next to the grocery list. Hand it to your sister at Sunday dinner. Drop it on the table at book club. Slip it into the church bulletin. Pass it to the women at the PTA, the dog park, the salon, the man who voted for Harris and meant it, the friend who said I knew she couldn’t win. Everywhere. Every kitchen. Every refrigerator in this country. We are the country. Wake up. —G
Before Obama it was considered impossible that a black man would ever occupy the office. Although I always consider the labelling questionable. I have long said "That black blood must be powerful stuff! Consider the term 'octoroon', 1/8 black, 7/8 white - still can't join your damn country club!" Barack Obama is half white. He has dark skin, but not nearly as dark as a lot of South Asians, and they are considered a Caucasian race.
By the end of this century, possibly within my lifetime, there will be a female American President, maybe even a trans one or a lesbian. And I look forward to the day, although again, not in my lifetime, when skin colour will stop having a slot on the census form and will go back to what it started out being - a geographic adaptation to UV resistance and vitamin D uptake. It is considered an article of anthropological faith that we originated in sub Saharan Africa. If you go back far enough, your ancestors were black!
It's inevitable.
